If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile I’m hoping you feel more confident in what you should be eating and why you need to be eating it. Along with that I trust that you’ve been learning what you need to avoid and why it is so important to do so.
So now that you know what you should be eating the next issue is how do you combine these great ingredients to make healthy recipes?
This is where a lot of people get tripped up, they have all the knowledge in the world on great nutrition but when it comes to boiling an egg they are pretty screwed.
Let me now share some of my favorite online nutrition/recipe websites that not only give you great tasting recipes but they have your best health in mind.
Unlike this guy…
Fun facts: Colonel Sanders first name was ‘Harland’ and he actually was made a colonel in 1936 before which he owned a gas station. Which is ironic because after eating KFC it has you running for a gas station bathroom..
Getting Your Recipe On
O.K like I was saying knowing how to put a meal together is very key on this journey towards health and wellness. I had a recent podcast with guest Andrea Beaman who is a holistic nutrition and thyroid expert and also appeared on the first season of Top Chef.
We discussed this issue of people not knowing where to start in the kitchen and she gave some amazing advice. I highly advise listening to by far my most downloaded episode as Andrea is the perfect combination of health and foodie.

It’s A Bloggy Blog World
It’s no surprise that blogs are everywhere. At this moment there are over 500,000,000 of them ranging from food blogs to Brony fan clubs..
It’s a great time to be interested in food and nutrition as the growth of things like the Food Network has led us to a real food movement.
But it’s not only about Gordon Ramsay screaming at people, real food is everywhere you look kind of like these lyrics tell us..
Did you know DJ married a pro NHL player in real life? How about that Uncle Joey aka Dave Coulier was the motivation behind “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissete? I can go all day… here’s one more: Jodie Sweetin aka Stephanie hosted an MTV show called “Pants-Off Dance-Off”
You can’t make that stuff up…
Curse the Olsen twins for not being part of the Full House reunion..
So you’re ready to hear my top favorite online healthy recipe sites in no particular order?
You Got It Dude!
1. Fit Foodie Finds
fitfoodfinds.com is run by Lee Hersh who bases her recipes around top notch nutrition and likes to make sure things are gluten free. She does all sorts of snacks, one pot meals ( a great go to for kitchen newbies) and healthier takes on popular dishes like kung pao chicken.
2. Oh She Glows
ohsheglows.com is an award winning health and diet cooking blog run by New York Times best selling author Angela Liddon (who is also a fellow Ontarion..)
This is a plant based recipe site with some truly incredible recipes. Most recipes are free from dairy, soy, gluten and processed foods. She even has a 2 day plant based meal plan. Support a fellow Canuck who isn’t Justin Bieber or Drake..
3. AndreaBeaman.Com
Got to holla at my girl! Andreabeaman.com is not only a wealth of nutrition information but her recipes section has got you covered. If you eat or don’t eat meat, or are avoiding certain ingredients you will find everything you need here. Try parsley, garlic and walnut dressing or baked cod with miso ginger marinade. This top chef will not steer you wrong.
4. Deliciously Ella
Simply head to deliciouslyella.com for another great plant based recipe site. It’s not that everyone has to be vegan to be healthy but your diet must be plant based regardless of who you are or what your nutrition goals are. Vegetables and fruits need to be the cornerstone of our diet, note that I said VEGETABLES and fruits, not fruits and vegetables, as vegetables should be the backbone of your diet.
This site was created after Ella went through some health problems and you can see the benefits from ditching a processed food diet. Amazing recipes and great looking photos to boot
5. Sprouted Kitchen
sproutedkitchen.com has been one of my favorites lately. Another beautifully photographed site (remember we basically start eating with our eyes first) different categories are covered such as appetizers, beverages, dessert, entree, gluten free, you name it!
I’m a big fan of the cherry nut granola..
6. Olives For Dinner
One of the best things about olivesfordinner.com is your getting not only great recipes but good instruction on how to make things like almond milk, or vegetable stock, or even how to fold a wonton dumpling.
There are so many recipes on here you will never get bored.
7. Nom Nom Paleo
You’ve probably heard of nomnompaleo if you are a part of the paleo movement. This site does exactly as it sounds, it provides paleo based recipes. There are some amazing things on here like paleo mayonnaise, guacamole, even paleo siracha.
8. Running On Real Food
Deryn Macey is another fellow Canuck and is the creator of runningonrealfood.com which caters to runners and triathletes but contains recipes everyone will love. The focus is basing your diet on real, whole foods and then taking it from there. As long as real food is the cornerstone you will be setting yourself up for success.
If you are active you will find this site a life saver with its nutrient dense yet high energy recipes. Try the vegan coconut mocha protein balls… you’re welcome..
9. Picky Eater Blog
pickyeaterblog.com is run by board certified health coach, Anjali Shah. This site is awesome because it not only has your nutrition in mind it includes foods such as Indian, Italian, Asian and Mexican. There’s a ton of awesome stuff on here along with top level nutrition insight.
10. Skinny Taste
skinnytaste.com is run by Gina Homolka which focuses on fresh and family friendly recipes. She is an author and photographer and New York Times best selling author. Her philosophy is to eat clean, seasonal and whole foods while maintaining good portion control.
You can’t beat this zesty lime shrimp and avocado salad
11. Dine And Dish
dineanddish.net combines food, family and photography and is run by Kristin Doyle. (O’Doyle rules!) She is also a freelance writer providing a ton of great information for other websites as well as nationwide print publications.
You can search recipes by categories and I might have found one of my new all time favorite recipes with her buffalo pulled pork nachos..
12. My New Roots
mynewroots.org is about making healthy choices everyday. Run by a holistic nutritionist this site again contains beautiful pictures which I really appreciate. This site is really cool because you can search for main categories like breakfast, lunch, main dish, salad and raw food, but you can also search from one of the four seasons, no NOT Frankie Valli..
You can also search recipes by ingredient or even theme, including “anything from cumin to cozy..”.
13. The Year In Food
theyearinfood.com is awesome. It’s like part journal but also a focus on eating healthy and seasonal fruits and vegetables. There is a full guide to seasonal foods, desserts, drinks, holiday ideas and a ton more.
It combines inspirational things that go so well with food like traveling and photography.
14. Paleo Plan
I’ve been using paleoplan for awhile now. Again it’s based around a paleo diet which means no grains, dairy or processed foods. They have a subscription offer that allows you to have meal plans and workouts delivered right into your inbox but the site contains a ton of great free recipes.
It breaks things down into a bunch of different categories including crockpots, desserts and even making your own breads/pastas with paleo friendly ingredients like almond and coconut flour.
15. The Fitness Recipes
I’ll finish with another one of my go-to’s. thefitnessrecipes.com caters to those who are active and pursuing a fit lifestyle. The recipes are focused on the goals of health and fitness and it keeps things simple with categories such as breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and desserts.
Try the protein chocolate ice cream and tell them I sent ya.. well don’t because they have no idea who I am, but you’ll love it.
